A Consignor's Story
WHAT I DID TO PREPARE FOR THE SALE
&
HOW I MADE $15 PER HOUR, TAX-FREE
-
Piled all my cleaned-up toys into a bin. Put dollar store batteries in toys that needed them. 30 minutes
-
Washed and hung clothes on hangers then separated by gender and size. I double checked for stains and quality during this time as well. 2 hours
-
Sat at my kitchen table with bin next to me and clothes piled on the table.
-
Tip: make sure to keep clothes in order. Entered inventory into the computer. 2 hours.
-
Printed tags and trimmed excess paper using a paper cutter. TIP: I piled two sheets at a time together to trim and cut. After trimming I cut the tags down the center then horizontally. Finally, I piled the tags in item number order. Item numbers will be on the tags. This helps to keep the sequence when you tag your piles of clothing. 2 hours
-
Pinned and taped tags on 140 items. 2 hours.
I had approximately 20% toys and 80% clothes. No big ticket items because I sold most of my big baby gear at the previous sales. My inventory total was $440.
12 hours of volunteering=80% earnings plus 8 hours and 30 minutes of preparation time=20 hours and 30 minutes of work.
I sold 90% of my items. My earnings were $313.63 after I paid my consignor fee and earned 80%. I made $15.30 per hour tax free. WOW! I thought this was great especially being able to work almost half my hours from home and volunteering at the sale was the best. It was like a girl’s night out. I had so much fun. I also got to shop early and found great deals. A huge savings there too.
